Apply educational principles relevant to the physical, social, emotional, moral, and cognitive development of preadolescents and adolescents.

Identify instructional practices, approaches, and methods which support the developmental, cultural, and linguistic differences of readers including aligning print and digital materials to the cognitive levels of all readers, guided by an evidence-based rationale.

Draw inferences or conclusions from facts, analyze author's purpose and point of view, evaluate author's argument and evidence, and synthesize information from more than one text to demonstrate critical thinking on multiple levels.

Use a wide range of philosophies and theories of communication arts and literature instruction.

Teach literature knowledge and skills including a repertoire of fiction and nonfiction texts, classic and contemporary works, and works written for preadolescents and adolescents by diverse authors.

Select and use texts and materials which incorporate a broad range of common and diverse perspectives.
