BS in Mathematics Teaching (52-54 credits) View Details


Admission Requirements

  • Must participate in a STEM Education Admissions Event to assess student skills in writing and oral communication as well as student dispositions.

Professional Education Sequence for Pre K-12 and 5-12 Licensure: ED 300; CPSY 262; CPSY 361; IM 422; HURL 497; ED 451; ENGL 460 or ED 460; SPED 203; ED 421; ED 431; ED 466. Grades of C (not C-) are required in the Professional Education classes.

Notes

  • Students are encouraged to declare their intent to major in mathematics teaching as soon as possible.
  • All but one required mathematics course in the B.S. program must be completed prior to student teaching.
  • A student who fails or withdraws from five or more mathematics or statistics classes may be dropped from the program.
  • Students must earn at least a “C-“ in all program courses and overall GPA of 2.25 in all program courses to graduate.
  • ED 431, IM 422, STEM 420 and MATH 431 are co-requisites. ED 421, ED 451, STEM 421 and MATH 432 are co-requisites. STAT 219, STAT 242, or STAT 353 may be substituted for STAT 239 with permission of advisor.

(46 cr.) MATH 221, MATH 222, MATH 271, MATH 304, MATH 312, MATH 321, MATH 411, MATH 431, MATH 432, MATH 465, MATH 482, STAT 239, STAT 321, STEM 420, STEM 421. MATH 431, STEM 420, MATH 432, STEM 421, and MATH 482 must be completed at St. Cloud State University.

Electives

(6-8 cr.) (choose two courses): MATH 252, MATH 325 or MATH 327, MATH 353, MATH 421, MATH 423, MATH 427, MATH 452, MATH 455, MATH 480, MTHE 441, STAT 447.

To satisfy the upper division writing requirement, students must complete MATH 431 and 432 with grades of "C-" or better.

Minor in Middle School Mathematics (27 credits) View Details


Admission Requirements

  • GPA: 2.4
  • GPA of 2.40 in all program courses
  • Completion of at least three program credits at SCSU
  • A student who fails or withdraws from three or more mathematics courses may be denied admission to the minor.

  • Students are urged to apply for admission as soon as they become eligible.
  • A student who fails or withdraws from five or more mathematics classes may be dropped from the program.
  • Students must earn at least a “C-“ in all program courses.
  • This minor, along with SPED 203, CPSY 262, CPSY 361, ED 451 (or equivalent), and a four-week middle grades student teaching field experience, will fulfill the requirements for Minnesota middle grades mathematics licensure.
