This is a recommended course sequence based on the current University Catalog for this degree and illustrates how the degree could be completed. Actual plans for individual students will vary based on transfer credits, semester start, advisor recommendations and academic needs.

The degree map does not substitute for professional advising. Review your degree audit report and see your advisor each semester.

Be Advised

1. English courses may be offered either Fall or Spring because we cycle through a diversity of content. Please discuss your interests with an English faculty advisor who knows your program

2. English Studies BA program must elect a minor program of study or complete one year of a single foreign language.

3. ENGL Electives (13-19 credits)

a. Take additional courses in ENGL at the 200-level or above to meet 40 credits. Students may select from literature, creative writing, linguistics, or professional writing or communications. Ask an advisor about including courses in Film Studies.

4. Complete at least 6 credits in ENGL at the 400-level.

5. Capstone Experience (3-4 credits)

a. ENGL 444 (Internship) is optional and recommended in the summer term.

b. Students should consider taking a course emphasizing grammar in order to build editing skills.

6. British Literature (3-4 credits)

a. ENGL 481, ENGL 495 or other topics course may count as British Literature

7. Topics courses ENGL 481 or ENGL 495 may be substituted for requirements that match their content (for example, British Literature).

8. All SCSU students must complete a minimum of 120 credits to graduate.

9. All SCSU students must have at least 40 credits of 300/400 level courses to graduate.

10. All SCSU students must complete a minimum of 40 credits of Liberal Education courses AND meet the requirements of all 10 goal areas, including RIGR and Diversity.
