Design developmentally appropriate learning experiences to promote curiosity, democratic values, love of learning, classroom community, and respect for others from different cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, races, religions, and socioeconomic status.

Create an inclusive and positive learning environment that enables each learner to think, collaborate, and engage with multiple perspectives, including opportunities for active engagement and reinforcement of self-motivation.

Organize the classroom in ways that promote student efficacy, voice, and ownership of learning, and respond to cultural differences driven by poverty in ways that build students’ abilities to negotiate social and academic structures.

Create learning experiences through selection of resources or media that make the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

Plan inductive and deductive instructional models that support every student in meeting learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, state and local standards, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and community context.

Apply understanding of content areas and pedagogical connections to apply knowledge and skills in meaningful ways by using a variety of instructional strategies.

Use multiple assessment strategies to capture intellectual and affective growth, to engage students in their own growth, to monitor students’ progress, and to guide candidates’ decision making in lesson design.

Interpret the mandated testing results and data with an understanding of the limitations of test instruments.

Apply and evaluate evidence-based practices to meet standard-based requirements.
