Degree Map

This is a recommended course sequence based on the current University Catalog for this degree and illustrates how the degree could be completed. Actual plans for individual students will vary based on transfer credits, semester start, advisor recommendations and academic needs.

Be Advised

1. All pre-admission courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher prior to applying for admission. Admission GPA: 2.75

2. A formal application and entrance exam are required. Completion of this process does not guarantee admission to the Nursing major or access to NURS courses.

3. Admission test of English as a Foreign Language (score of 84 with a minimum speaking score of 26 on the TOEFL iBT) OR Admission International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 7.0 in the speaking module and a minimum of 6.0 in all other modules).

   a. The Board of Nursing has determined the following to be countries exempt from English proficiency or English testing requirements, if their entry-level professional education (with language of textbooks and verbal instructions in English) was from the following countries. St Cloud State University Nursing is consistent with this.

   • Australia

   • Barbados

   • Canada (except Quebec, the only schools approved for exemption are: McGill University, Dawson College, Vanier college, John Abbott College, and Heritage College)

   • Ireland

   • Jamaica

   • New Zealand

   • South Africa

   • Trinidad and Tobago

   • United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland)

   • United States

   b. Applicants from any other country must pass an English-speaking proficiency exam.

4. Admission International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 7.0 in the speaking module and a minimum of 6.0 in all other modules). Request the International English Language Testing System.

5. Students fulfill the University’s Upper Division Writing Requirements by successfully completing NURS 403.

6. There is a placement exam for MATH or STAT 103. Some students will need to take MATH 070 as a prerequisite.

7. Students must be admitted into the nursing major in order to enroll in the fourth semester courses (NURS courses). Once students are admitted into the nursing major, they will take the courses as outlined in semesters four through eight (4-8).

8. All SCSU students must complete a minimum of 120 credits to graduate.

9. All SCSU students must have at least 40 credits of 300/400 level courses to graduate.

10. All SCSU students must complete a minimum of 40 credits of Liberal Education courses AND meet the requirements of all 10 goal areas, including RIGR and Diversity.

11. Apply for graduation one semester before you plan to graduate.
