This is a recommended course sequence based on the current University Catalog for this degree and illustrates how the degree could be completed. Actual plans for individual students will vary based on transfer credits, semester start, advisor recommendations and academic needs.

Be Advised

Lower Division Business Core - Group 1 (14 credits) must be completed at the time of application to HBS Upper Division Status.
Lower Division Business Core - Group 2 (19 credits) must be completed or enrolled in at the time of application to HBS Upper Division Status.
Lower Division Business Core - Group 3 (7 credits) must be completed prior to or after admission to HBS Upper Division Status.
HBS 111 may be waived for transfer students.
2.4 GPA and 12 earned credits are required to register for ACCT 291, ACCT 292, BLAW 235, IS 270, MGMT 201, and MKTG 220.
A grade of C- or better is required in IS 270.
Admission to Upper Division Business Core (15 credits)

a. Only business majors with HBS Upper Division Status or admitted business minors may enroll in 300- and 400-level Business School courses. Department permission is required for all other students. Prior to registering in 300- and 400-level major courses, all business majors must speak with their advisor to confirm that they have completed or attained the following:

i. Cumulative overall GPA: 2.5

ii. 40 earned credits from courses numbered 100 or higher

iii. Completed all Lower Division Business Core – Group 1 courses

iv. Completed or enrolled in all Lower Division Business Core – Group 2 course

v. Grade of C- or better in each of the following courses: MATH 106 or MATH 112.

8. MGMT 497 must be taken in a student’s last semester, after completing the remainder of Upper Division Business Core. Registration for MGMT 497 requires permission from the program’s department.Information Systems Electives (6 credits) select from: IS 301, IS 344 or IS 359 or IS 444, IS 345, IS 363, IS 365, IS 371, IS 372, IS 381, IS 395, IS 445, IS 452, IS 454, IS 458, IS 459, IS 473, IS 475, IS 477, IS 483, IS 484, IS 485, IS 495, IS 498, IS 499.

a. IS 345 and IS 452 are strongly recommended for 4+1 students – contact your advisor for details.

b. A maximum of 3 credits of IS 344 and IS 359 and IS 444 can count towards elective credits.

c. A maximum of 9 credits of IS 459 can count towards elective credits.

d. IS 443, IS 450 and IS 454 are required for the Business Intelligence certificate.

e. IS 371, IS 372 and IS 483 are required for the Information Assurance certificate.

10. Students in the 4+1 accelerated program may take these graduate courses in their 4th year: IS 545, IS 552, IS 554, IS 573, IS 575, IS 577, IS 583.

a. If you have taken any of the 400-level courses as an undergraduate student, students should not take the 500-level counterparts.

11. It is possible that students may not be admitted by the Graduate School in their 4th year. It is also possible that students may change their mind and simply complete the standard bachelor’s degree. In these cases, students will need to complete 120 credits to graduate, and if they have not completed 9 credits of 500-level courses they may need additional undergraduate courses.

12. If students are accepted by the department into the 4+1 accelerated program in their 3rd year and don’t complete all courses in their 4th year on schedule, acceptance into the Graduate School may be deferred for up to one year until the BS is completed. In these cases, students may technically be assigned the standard requirements for the BS.

13. Information Assurance MS: Information Security Management Electives (9 to 12 credits) select from: IA 644 or IA 633, IA 658, IA 659, IA 680, IA 683, IA 693, IS 543, IS 545, IS 550, IS 551, IS 552, IS 554 or STAT 615, IS 559, IS 560, IS 573, IS 575, IS 577, IS 583, STAT 660.

a. If you have taken any of the 400-level courses as an undergraduate student, students should not take the 500-level counterparts.

b. No more than 3 credits may be counted from IA 680.

c. If a student chooses the thesis option, the student needs to complete 9 credits of electives; If a student chooses the capstone course, the student needs to complete 12 credits of electives.

14. Information Assurance MS: General Track Electives (9 to 12 credits) select from: IA 644 or IA 633, IA 658, IA 659, IA 680, IA 683, IA 693, IS 543, IS 545, IS 550, IS 551, IS 552, IS 554 or STAT 615, IS 558, IS 559, IS 560, IS 573, IS 575, IS 577, IS 583, IS 584, IS 585, STAT 660, CYB5 530, CYB 531, CYB 533, CYB 551, CYB 565, CYB 573, CYB 575, CYB 585.

a. If you have taken any of the 400-level courses as an undergraduate student, students should not take the 500-level counterparts.

b. If completing a thesis, the student must complete 9 credits of electives.

c. If completing a capstone course, a student must complete 12 credits of electives.

15. Culminating Experience (3 to 6 credits) select from IA699.

a. Students should consult with their academic advisor to determine the most appropriate culminating project plan for their academic and career goals.

b. If completing a thesis, students must complete 6 credits of IA699.

c. If completing a capstone course, students must complete 3 credits of IA699.

16. All SCSU students must complete a minimum of 120 credits to graduate.

17. All SCSU students must have at least 40 credits of 300/400 level courses to graduate.

18. All SCSU students must complete a minimum of 40 credits of Liberal Education courses AND meet the requirements of all 10 goal areas, including RIGR and Diversity.

19. Apply for graduation one semester before you plan to graduate.
