The Program Long Name/Title printed on transcripts, diplomas and in the catalog is fixed for individual students at the time of program admission. This title change will be effective for students admitted after approval of this proposal, but not for current students.

By changing the title of an active program, this creates a new record in ISRS, SCSU's Records Office system. Once the new title is active, your program will have TWO ACTIVE VERSIONS IN ISRS until you close out all the students in the old version, and you are committing to a form of a teach-out situation for the old program title.

We recommend that you prepare to do one of the following once your change is approved.

Option 1) Talk to all of your currently active students (every single one) and find out if they are willing or interested in changing to the new version of the program. If so, your department can work with the Records Office or the Graduate School (if appropriate) and move all of your students into the new version of the program. Once the old version is empty, you can close it.

Option 2) Allow all current students to graduate and then when there are zero students active in the Records Office system in the old version, close the old version.

Option 3) Tell all your students that the old title/version will be available for three more years (the standard length of a teach-out at SCSU). Get as many to graduate or switch as appropriate under Options 1 and 2. After three years, any students who have not graduated will be administratively moved to the new version, and you close out the old version. This is fair because you will have given them adequate chance to graduate.
