Learning Outcomes

Outcome

Identify, describe, and interpret different types of sediments, sedimentary rocks, sedimentary structures, trace fossils, sediment bedforms, and sedimentary facies.

Outcome

Construct the geologic history of a region and its original depositional environment based on the interpretation of sedimentary/stratigraphic features.

Outcome

Apply sedimentary laboratory and field-based analyses, such as grain size distribution curves, measuring a stratigraphic section, or basin analysis.

Outcome

Explain and apply the principles of seismic stratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, and chronostratigraphy.

Outcome

Apply knowledge of sedimentary processes and stratigraphic principles to a thesis-based project, including interpretation of the sedimentology, stratigraphy, and depositional environment of a specific location. related to a research project.
