Learn the basic cultural studies concepts that inform popular culture analysis and become adept at using them to study the cultural meaning of various popular culture sites.

Outcome

Recognize and analyze representations of gender, race, class, and sexual identity in various popular culture mediums and will explore the power dynamics that inform those representations and the sociopolitical effects of those portrayals.

Learn how to apply popular culture analysis to different mediums, such as film, advertising, televison, public spaces, and so on, and to understand the cultural meaning of the interactions of those different mediums.
