Learning Outcomes

Outcome

Solve quantitative chemistry problems using appropriate dimensional analysis (including reaction stoichiometry, solution preparation, thermochemical calculations and behavior of matter in the gas phase).

Outcome

Describe the structure and behavior of matter (atoms, molecules and ionic substances) using appropriate models (Lewis and VSEPR). Apply knowledge of chemical structures to intermolecular forces and properties of liquids.

Outcome

Demonstrate fluency in chemical nomenclature.

Outcome

Recognize different types of chemical reactions (precipitation, acid-base, redox)

Outcome

Engage in safe practices in the laboratory

Outcome

Demonstrate fluency in the periodic table of elements and in understanding periodicity in properties of atoms, ions, and compounds
